Welcome to Mercian Maiden!

This blog is dedicated to all things shiny, inspired by fantasy, science fiction, myth, legend and history!

About me

Hello!  My name is Sarah.  Making jewellery has been a hobby of mine for many years, and I thought it was about time I shared it!  On this blog you'll find some tutorials, and examples of my work, some of which will be for sale on Etsy.  For now the Etsy shop is an extention of the hobby.
My day job is as an author.  You can see my books here.

About the name "Mercian Maiden"

The Kingdom (and later Earldom) of Mercia covered the midlands of England.  It is where I am from, and there are still many things named for and after the former kingdom.
The Black Eagle was the heraldic device of Leofric, Earl of Mercia.  Perhaps his wife is better known; the Lady Godiva of Coventry.  Leofric's Eagle is now one of the supporters of the Coventry coat of arms, to symbolise the old Coventry.  (The other is a Pheonix, symbolising the rebuilt Coventry).
